About the artist
Jonathan Bassett
Jonathan Bassett is an oil painter who finds beauty and mood in everyday subjects such as landscapes, animals, and still lifes. He uses dramatic lighting and off-balance compositions that come together through color and depth. He grew up surrounded by the Sierra Nevada Mountains at Lake Tahoe. A creative soul from the start, Jonathan explored drawing, music, and photography, developing landscape prints in a friend’s darkroom during high school. It wasn’t until 2020, during lockdown, that oil painting truly captured him after watching a Bob Ross tutorial.
Through years of dedicated practice, he has developed a quieter, realistic style inspired by Andrew Wyeth’s subtle tones and careful detail. “Most artists find something fresh to paint; frankly, I find that quite boring. For me, it is much more exciting to find fresh meaning in something familiar.” - Andrew Wyeth
Now living near Nashville, Tennessee, Jonathan draws inspiration from rolling hills and warm Southern light. After painting primarily for himself, he is excited to share his work more widely, with his debut gallery exhibition opening in January 2026.
